This blog from Clare Lucignoli is a very telling account about the experiences of parent carers of disabled children and adults across Wales. It has to be essential reading for all decision makers and practitioners across the UK.
Clare writes…
I would be very grateful if you could take time to read and comment on the recent report I have taken time to complete with 112 parents taking part across Wales, and am happy to discuss the findings of this survey with you all.

The ITN news team have recently unveiled what so many parents across the country are enduring, along with Cerebra charity findings and how Professor Luke Clements and Ana Aiello of Leeds University, research and book, Understanding Parent Blame, too confirms how systematic change is needed and trauma is placed upon parents like myself, eg when trying to work with local authorities, health boards, education and housing teams. This parent carer blame needs to end. Please do look at the following ITN report.

This survey was also completed by another parent in Cambridgeshire last year. Please too read Rekha Neilson’s report.

We and other parents feel this survey should be shared with all LA’s and HB’s who provide support and care to families with disabled loved ones in both child and adult services to help improve and change the systems for the better.
There are so many of us wanting and hoping to co-produce/work together and liaise with you all eg like Dawn Cavanagh of Stolen Lives and myself, to simply improve the system, not to be punished by the system for standing up for the quality of lives of our loved ones.
